GROWING HERBS - we will plant and tend an apothecary garden through a full growing season. We'll start seeds in March, learn about tending the garden, each student having a monthly garden workshift, and dig roots, save seeds, and put the garden to bed in the fall.
USING HERBS - medicinal actions, usage, and dosages of 24 plants will be covered in depth with plenty of dabbling in other plants
MAKING MEDICINE - using plants from our garden, we will learn simple methods for making tincture, tea, infused oil, and salve. Everyone will go home with a share of medicine we grow and make together. Some medicine will go towards community projects to be decided by the students.
BODY SYSTEMS - overview of digestive, immune, nervous, respiratory, generative, urinary, and musculoskeletal systems, and which herbs can support these systems
HERBALISM IN CONTEXT - small group discussions of herbalism in a community context, today and historically
COMMUNITY BUILDING - this class is a community project, you'll get to know your classmates through group work and shared tasks.

- Scholarships available to any person of color with financial need. (We do this to address the white washing of herbalism; we do this to address the stolen healing practices from people of color by white folks; we do this to address systemic inequalities that affect income. The scholarship covers either 25% or 50% of the tuition costs.)
- Payment plans for all students
- Free childcare can be arranged if needed
- We have tentative dates that we will finalize by the time we get back to you in February, so no we don't know exact dates yet. If you are worried about scheduling conflicts, you can make a note of that in your application.
