Gut Feelings: Supporting the Gut-Brain Axis with Herbs

If you’ve been struggling with food, digestion, and mood or mental health, this class is for you!
In this workshop we’ll explore the gut-brain axis — the two-way communication between our nervous system and our digestive system — to understand how supporting digestive health can positively impact mental health.
While making dietary changes can be an important part of supporting digestion and mental health, this class mostly covers non-dietary changes, like setting a timer and eating food on a regular schedule for a few weeks, chewing on fennel seeds for bloating, and tools for supporting the particular aspects of the nervous system that often contribute to digestive problems.
We’ll talk about the role of stress, and look at how and when to use bitter nervines, herbs that affect the nervous and digestive systems. We will talk about some strategies involving food, but this class is anti-diet and non-dogmatic about food choices. Instead, we’ll focus on understanding what might be going on physiologically and how to create some simple changes that can have a big impact on digestion and mental health.
This class is ideal for folks interested in working with herbs and practices for self care or community care. If you’re a practicing herbalist looking for simple, accessible tools and tips to help support your clients, you’ll find that here, too!

Low Glow
3 part workshop on supporting PTSD, anxiety, and depression
with herbs and somatic practices
If you live with anxiety, depression, or PTSD, it can be difficult to support your mental and physical health. There’s a lot of information out there about what can help, but it’s hard to know where to start. It’s especially difficult to research herbs online. How much should I take? Will they interact with my meds? How will I know if they are working? Why would I take this herb instead of that herb?
I’m here to help. I’m a clinical herbalist and somatic practitioner with 10 years of experience working with clients who struggle with mental health. I’d love to share what I’ve seen work.
When you finish, you’ll have:
- A clearer understanding of how anxiety, depression, and trauma affect your physiology, messing with energy levels, sleep, hunger cues, digestion, and the immune system.
- Simple changes you can make to your daily routine that can help you feel better
- 3-4 herbal allies that you can count on for future support, including 6 weeks of getting to know these herbs during class
- 6 simple somatic practices for nervous system tending
- An overview of the herbal categories of adaptogens, nervines, aromatics, and bitters
- Insights from your classmates on ways to incorporate the herbs into your life
Before class begins, you will fill out a very brief form and receive a custom tincture or tea blend to take everyday during the duration of the course.
In this class you can show up just as you are. One session you might feel more open to participation, other times you may want to just have the session on in the background while you cook dinner or rest. And sometimes you might not feel like attending. All of that is welcome. We’re practicing listening to our body / mind / spirit and responding accordingly. In the words of Kurt Cobain, come as you are. Live sessions will be recorded if you can’t make it.
What’s included?
Live Sessions + Custom Herbs
- 4 video lessons, delivered via email every other week
- 3 live sessions on Zoom
- 6 weeks worth of a custom herbal formula (shipping included)
- Handouts with info on each herb including safety and dosage recommendations

- A guide to herbal farms and apothecary to help with sourcing herbs - you're also welcome to source herbs through me
- Handouts with info on each herb including safety and dosage recommendations
FAQs
- What if I’ve never taken herbs before? No problem, welcome! As long as you are open to trying, no experience with herbs is necessary
- What if I’m taking pharmaceutical medication? Again, no problem. All of the herbs that I’ll be offering during this course will be safe to take alongside any and all pharmaceuticals.
- What if I don’t know what “somatics” is? That is a-okay. We’ll talk more about what this broad term means and all somatic practices are optional.
- Will live sessions be recorded if I can’t attend? Yes.
- What do we do during the live sessions? We’ll try a some somatic practices, get any question answered, and swap tips on simple ways to incorporate the herbs into your life
